make sure you have a new needle in and that it'sin the right way. Clean out the bobbin case, too. Even a little bit of lintcan jam that baby up. Hope this helps!

Mine is too old to have reverse, but I seem to recall that pushing it all the way up is what I did for reverse on some other antique sewing machines, too.
