Sorta OT: Question about Polymer Clay

I think $18.00 is a good price. I got my first sampler pack on ebay pretty cheap. It normally runs about $24.00. I've also gotten it at Michael's, with a coupon for 40% off.

No experience, though, with Dick Blick.

It's a pretty good deal, however Sculpy III is pretty soft, so if you are planning on a lot of cane work - it's not the best. A firmer clay, like Premo, Fimo or Kato would be better.

Thank you for the info Barbara, and everyone else too. Right now, I am just trying to find something I can do that I want to do. I don't want to lay out a ton of money for something I may not want to do, so for now, the Sculpy III sampler seems like a good choice until I make a decision about whether it is something I will like.

Sure are. I think my mother dealt with them when she wrote her first book as a teenager. She's 80 now.

I went to Wal Mart (I know dreaded store) and bought the sampler pack to try it after my class. Now I haunt the coupons for Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and Joann's. My local art store has some and let's me buy on credit. I noticed yesterday at Michael's that they have an intermediate pack available with different colors.

I'm headed up to Hobby Lobby tomorrow--they have the 1/2 sale off jewelry beads and findings:) I am so sunk in that store--what aisle do I keep myself away from? the beads or the clay? It helps that I only bring about 10 bucks with me, though:)

We went yesterday and it was hard. But I only got what I needed as far as colors. I realized I had no orange or green for Halloween. So of course I had to get that. They had a table top easel (sp) on sale for $ 7 and change so I got that for my airbrush practising (sp again). It was so hard not to pick up stuff. I stayed out of the jewelry aisles though. It was hard. lol

The various supplies and reproducing equipment for the 3 color printing process for the illustrations.

I have started with Sculpy III and it gets so soft! I wonder if it's because it's so warm here.

How long can I let conditioned clay rest and harden up some before it needs to be worked again? If it's conditioned once is that it for that lump?

I've read somewhere that you should wrap it in plastic and put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. I'd probably store them in the fridge for long term. Going to play with my clay this weekend.

When I'm working on something intricate (ha) I put it in the freezer for about 15 to 20 mins. When I'm doing canes it goes in for about 4 hours before I start cutting it. When it gets way to "goopy", then I put it in the freezer for about 10 mins.

Candace has me hankerin' for some roses. So had to make some. Waiting for the flecto to dry before stringing them up. lol

For long term storage of clay keeping it in a dust proof, polyclay proof container is recommended. Something as simple as plastic wrap is enough. Check with glass attic tho to see which brand(s) wont react to the polymers. Diana
