Stretch Magic

I just wanted to give this stuff a ringing endorsement... I just made my first Stretch Magic bracelet using some crystals and Bali and beads from various artists I acquired in an exchange, and I LOVE IT! It's going to take me a while to be convinced that it won't break, but I adore the elegantly seamless look and the fact that there's no clasp to fuss with... best of all, the bracelet has no "top", so it never needs adjusting!

I recently used some for the first time, too. I made a set of 1" lentils in black with R-108 stringer decoration melted in, and the R-108 stuck to itself on other beads in the kiln so I have those kiss marks on them. Since I can't sell em, I strung the beads into a bracelet on the stretch magic and it has held so far. I get oodles of compliments on the bracelet, too. I love the no clasp thing, too.

It seems that almost everything here in the desert rots, especially elastic, spandex, rubberbands and stuff. I have some beads that were strung on Stretch Magic years ago and they are stretchy as ever with no cracking that I can see. I did have one bracelet break when it got caught on a dog collar. The dog just kept wiggling and bouncing all over and the bracelet finally snapped. But that's pretty extreme...

How did you tie the ends off? Or what ever it is you had to do.

Ooooh! That's pretty good evidence that I don't have to worry. :)

I wore it to Home Depot to pick up hardiboard, junction boxes, and cinder blocks for the Bead Shack, and it came through that experience just fine.

I just tied a square knot, and knoted it an extra time for security. Seems fine. So far. I am NOT a knot whiz, so we'll see! ;)

I am all over making more bracelets with this stuff now. I love it! Also, I just slipped the knot into a Bali bead, and it stays put.

I always seem to have real bad luck with plastic. I wouldn't sell anything made on it. But I bet it would be a fast and easy options for jewelry I make for myself or that I string temporarily. (Like the watch I strung up to wear "temporarily" because one of the silver caps didn't match -- I've been wearing it for 6 months).

a surgeons knot is very good for this. basically just a square knot with an extra wrap around the cord.

believe it or knot there is a knot page you can google to see how to tie various knots

I'm gonna have to check out that knot page... sounds like a good education opportunity for the knot-impaired. :)
