TIDBITS RIDDLE

May 03, 2008 4 Replies

So here it is. No Tidbits again. Server crashed. Had to switch to new server. Don't ask. However ... I will make it up here and now. A riddle for you for the week. It ain't easy. But it'll keep the gray matter working. Ready?

You have a balance scale. You have twelve pieces of candy. Eleven pieces have the exact same weight. The twelfth one weighs different. You don't know if it weighs more or less. This candy is poisonous. Using the balance scale only three times ... find the poisonous piece of candy.

Have fun kiddies.

To easy

weigh 6 and 6, heavy one keep, weigh 3 and 3 heavy one keep, weigh 1 and 1 if same one off scale is heavy one if on scacle it's the one that drops.

Ah, but the problem is that you don't know the bad one is heavier.

And at the moment, I don't have a solution for three weighings. Four is easy.

Val

weigh 6 and 6, heavy one keep, weigh 3 and 3 heavy one keep, weigh 1 and 1 if same one off scale is heavy one if on scacle it's the one that drops.
