what works up faster?

I like making tubular Peyote necklaces and bracelets but they take me forever. I tried a spiral chain that worked up really fast, but it doesn't seem as solid to me as the peyote tubes.... it's nice for some things, but I really like the way the peyote tubes feel. I'm seeing Ndebele/Herringbone tubes out there, and also crochet ones... I'm wondering if anyone has tried any of these and can compare it to Peyote tubes? Which works up faster? Which are stronger?

Thanks! Pam

I know herringbone is faster than tubular peyote, at least for me.

I've just learned to bead crochet, but I am told that an accomplished crocheter can do 7" an hour. I'm nowhere near that, yet, and of course there's the pre-stringing time, but I am surprised at how quickly things go once I get started.

Thanks Elise :) I tried crochet once but couldn't figure out what to do after the first row - I think I need someone to show me. The latest Bead and Button has a Ndebele Twist rope that looks nice - I would really like to do some cool twisty stuff with varying shades and sizes of beads. I think you can do that kind of thing with crochet too.... I guess I'm just trying to figure out which one to learn next - the peyote ones seem to burn me out - once I finish one I don't want to start another for a LONG time!

My experience with tubular herringbone was that

IT TOOK FREAKING FOREVER!!!!

Twice as long as it takes me to do tubular peyote.

Depends on how big around the piece is. My purses take about 10-15 min per round (for coin purse size, Conso cord, 8/0 beads) once I have the bottom finished. More if it's a complicated design that requires counting spaces on every row. Kaytee "Simplexities" on

I don't know of any instructions, but it's so easy that I can tell you in a few sentences.

When you make your initial bead ring to start tubular peyote, use two or more colors of beads. To start, you might want to use just two colors. Say purple and white. For seven around tubular peyote, use six purples and one white.

Then on each go-round, when you get to the white bead, pass through it, and pick up another white bead. Then go back to the purple. You'll quickly notice the white spiraling up the tube. You can use as many colors as you'd like - just pick up the same color bead when you get to it as you go around.

My favorite spiral has all the colors of the rainbow with a black background. I made a couple of pens using that combination (a pen is about fifteen 11/0 seed beads around, IIRC), and gave them to DD's teachers. They were very, very popular.

THANK YOU! I imagine that it works great alternating bead size that way too - can't wait to experiment :-)
