Karen, I have been with Internet Connection for several years now. Cost is reasonable, space is huge, and they are extremely helpful and tolerant of my learning curve!!

Karen, I have used GoDaddy since 7/2002 and have been really satisfied. Most of my business is word of mouth and I haven't promoted my web site very heavily so I don't have a huge amount of traffic but so far everything they provide has been adequate. Their service is good and my web pages on their server seems to load pretty quickly (on my machine anyway). Avoid the .biz and .info -- the spammers have discovered them, and lots of spam filtering software blocks email containing .biz or .info.

My domains are now (all) registerd through Godaddy. As far as domain hosting, I gotta recommend my husband's hosting biz. He offers a lot for the money - the link is in my sig.

There are online merchant account systems you can use for various fees - probably less expensive that getting a merchant account through a bank. Jon checked in to these a couple of weeks ago and I"m sure he'd share his information with you.

I use GoDaddy for domain registration. For hosting, I like ipowerweb.com

I use GoDaddy for registration, and it's great:o) It has been featured in many tech magazines, & I have yet to hear a bad thing about 'em (even their domain transfer process was smooth as fast). For hosting, we use RackShack (link below). It's got WAY more space than I could even imagine using! Between my DH and I, and our friend with her own BOOMING online store, we're still not even at a fraction of the usage we could be. I like that, because it gives me room to play, and when I have a sale, I don't have to worry about the sudden surge of 4 times as many shoppers at once crashing my site;o) The up/download speeds are incredible, and we've never had downtime due to bugs or maintenance.

Also, I would stay away from the other extensions (.org, .biz, .net). Extensive research has shown that they get WAY less traffic than the same domain registered as .com. Maybe you use DesertDreamerBeads.com? or DesertofDreams.com? or DesertDreamerGlass? I didn't go check if these names were available, just off the top of my head:o)

... it's pricing is per year what others is about per month. Of course, you really need to know your html, because they don't really have the help. But they have all the bells and whistles, as far as I can tell...

I just started my website and ot my webosting free from a great webhost. They are from the uk and just starting here in the us. If your from the us or canada its free for 3 years . (No ads from them either)You can also get domain names from them for something like $10 ( I had mine). I needed a lot of help setting up my site and never had to wait more than a half hour for an answer. They even give you free software for doing your webpage and it has an intergrated paypal shopping cart thingy with it.

I really do reccomend them.

£14 for a .co.uk? I guess as it includes hosting that's not bad... I use - I paid £6.79 for mine (2yrs), though they're doing a promo at the mo which knocks a few pence offthat, hosted at - from $5.99/yr which is less than£4.

I have several domains registered through Dotster and I use Fatcow for my webhosting. Really nice folks, based in New Mexico. I haven't needed help often, but when I do, they're responsive, helpful and pleasant.

GoDaddy's good for domain reg, and one of the cheapest. However, watch out during the registration process for all the extra services they try to sell you. And just cuz you're registering your domain name with GoDaddy doesn't mean you have to host there. Also, before getting your domain at Godaddy, check out some of these website hosting reviews, as some hosts offer free domain registration with your hosting account:

But then, firstly I had to find somewhere that would accept my debit card, and secondly, almost everywhere else is actually more expensive! Their merchant sites aren't too bad either and upgrades are very easily done. I have to confess, I also paid the extra for a very detailed stats page so I can see things about people who visit my page.

and his programming website is He did my website, including the vendor interface (which is neat - I just fill out the price and description, and select which photos I want to use, and it uploads the pics from my computer) and shopping cart. I designed it, so don't blame that part on him! He also did the merchandise database and shopping cart/checkout for and many other less interesting sites. (One sells business forms, and another... well, I don't actually know what the heck Gartner does. Something computer-y.)
