I have an idea

I was thinking, (which is always a scary thing) if anyone else might be interested in a website that will post pics of your work on a page. No selling, but you can include contact info if YOU want to do that...and it would be free. But you could have a place to exhibit some work and have others log on and look at it too.

Here were some of my thoughts. Allow each artist one page.....up to 10 pics of 100kb or less per pic. No fancy backgrounds to keep up with it...nice white. Possible later we can add backgrounds of the artists choosing. No selling so the website can stay free. But as said earlier, if you want to include your contact info, it can be posted. Pictures would go up once a week...I work part time starting in Sept(at a BEAD shop!)...so my time spent on this will be limited. I want to keep it simple, but nice with a clean, crisp look.

Why I would do this....because it fun. I love seeing jewelry and what everyone else is doing. I would love to find someone who might want to help with the site so I can take a break, or if I am on vacation.

Let me know what ya'll think. Nothing is definite and I am looking for ideas and feedback at the moment.

I think that would be great. I seem to have problems with the Yahoo group where people often post. And I also don't really want to get the e-mail there at Yahoo.

I would love to see more beadwork again. Mostly now what we see is links to eBay and mostly lampwork. I'd love to see more of what people are doing with beads.

I would just like a place to see jewelry...one of my "side" jobs is maintaining websites for small businesses. I just thought it was a cool idea...I could spend lots of time ohhhhing and ahhhhing over jewelry and the creativity it took to come up with the designs.

No spam, I'm just a beader. Janet R

DH has a hosting biz with image gallery software. If folks wanted to contribute to get the $100 hosting fee paid (for 100 meg) (plus $8 for a domain name), we can put up an image gallery and give everyone that contributes their own album in that gallery.

Just a thought.

If I read Vicki's response correctly, I think she's having a problem figuring out the spamtrap in your email address, Janet.

I'm going to get a dedicated server for my website, so I could host something, it would be free, and you could sell stuff if you want. It won't be for a couple of months though.

The image gallery allows for HTML in the descriptions, so you could add a link to a PayPal shopping cart or whatever. I just thought I'd put the offer out there because that way we could avoid popups, etc. associated with free web servers.

Another thought would be to set up a co-op website where multiple bead/jewelry artists can sell through one shopping cart, yet pool their resources for marketing, etc. Some examples of these co-ops are:

It sounded to me like Janet was talking about show and tell to include people who don't sell, or who want to show something not for sale.

Yes, I only added the 'selling' part because Kalera mentioned it. :-)

We had that at one time - eclecticbeadery.com - I ran this awhile back but now Katfysh Jewelry runs it. I don't know if they are accepting new members at this time, but a lot of RCB and former RCB members are on there.

Ah, okay - she was the last time I emailed her, which was only about 2 months ago - it must have changed hands again. Their FAQ says they are not accepting new members, though - and so does the contact page.

Yes, we set this up (well, they did -- I didn't) long ago. It can be done. ~~ Sooz

Most of the jewelry at Eclectic Beadery is underpriced, too, if you want to shop a little and want something someone else made.
