Can the Brother 8200 do the same thing as a serger, if so how ? or do I need to buy one, any recommendations ?

Thanks

No sewing machine can do what a serger does. Serger overcasts edge of fabric while cutting excess off. There are of course serger attachments for sewing machines but they are not really as effective as a real serger. Sort of like trying to bake a turkey in a toaster oven. If you buy a serger I recommend one by Janome/New Home/My Lock --OR-- Husquvarna/Viking

Sorry Sunshine, I gotta disagree.

I would highly recommend the BabyLock sergers. The Imagine is a little more money than some others but it is jet-air threaded and has auto tension. By far the very best sergers on the market. Hus, janome, brother, pfaff, bernina do not compare.

Have you ever tried one? Guaranteed, you would buy it.

I'll ditto that. I have the Babylock Evolve and have never regretted buying it. Anyone in the market for a serger should at least go and see a demo on the Babylocks. The jet-air threading is such a time saving. I can change 8 threads in under 5 minutes. HONEST!!! My 2cents (and worth every penny :>) Sharon

I'm fairly certain Babylock Evolve' can do what you want. Take a few test fabrics to the dealer and run them through the Babylock sergers.. Take your checkbook with you... once you see how easily these Babylocks thread.... you will be hooked. Sharon
