Embroidery System not compatible with Windows Vista

I own a Husqvarna Viking Iris 600 and a VIP Customizing Embroidery System. = BUT my computer runs on Windows Vista, which is incompatible with the VIP = Customizing Embroidery System. What is the best option for me? =20

I considered switching my operating system to XP, but my laptop doesn't hav= e a port for the dongle. Additionally, I'd prefer to keep the VIP Customiz= ing because I have Crown Plus Collection CD-ROM (part #756 200100) that I'd= like to be able to use with it. (I'm not sure it would be compatible with= other embroidery systems.)

You could install XP on a separate harddirve partition, and just boot to that partition when you need to use the software..

I have a Singer Quantum XL 6000 and PSW 2.0a software, The dongle requires a serial port, and since my laptop does not have one, I tried several USB-to-serial adaptors. The only one which worked well all the time was :

In addition to Beverly's suggestions:

Have you tried the compatibility mode settings? In Vista you should be able to designate that an application be run in XP Compatibility mode (or even Windows 98).

Belkin also makes a well-received serial to USB adapter

Regarding your Crown Plus Collection, just about all embroidery software can handle a multitude of formats; Viking's .hus, .vpt, and others, along with .pes, .xxx, .sew etc. etc. And they can output designs in any of those formats as well, with a couple of exceptions (Bernina's ART being a major exception).

And there is conversion software available, including the free Wilcom TrueSizer.
