Question about using large designs, bigger than 4x4, on Brother 150PE

I have a Brother 150PE and a special large hoop. I would like to use a larger design than the traditional 4"x4". Is the design governed by the size of hoop you have, or the software in the machine? I don't want to change any designs; just download or buy larger ones to stitch.

Governed by the software, sorry to say, but you can buy splits-----that amounts to sewing 3 or 4 separate 4 x 4's that join up........

Forgive my ignorance, but just what is a "split"? If I wanted to buy a design that was let's say 6x7, wouldn't I use just the larger hoop?

There are ways to separate (split) a design into multiple sections so that each part will fit into whatever size hoop you have.

Unfortunately, No.

The sewing machine itself might be limited to only understanding a 4x4 (100cm x 100cm) area. What you would have to do with such a machine varies. For instance, the Viking Rose has that internal limitation but also has a larger hoop - you hoop your material, then, using a split design, sew the first part of the design. You then reposition the hoop (it can be positioned in two pre-defined places) and sew the second part.

I wasn't sure what the maximum design size the machine will sew; I guess that was also part of my question. Sorry if I wasn't clear (I'm still new at this "embroidery thing"). From what I now understand, it will sew only 4x4 and that I would use the larger hoop if I wanted to combine designs on the fabric without having to rehoop.
