Bernina did a coverlock only machine some time back. I am still looking for one. It was a model 009. As I already have a great serger and just want the cover stitch this would seem to be the answer. Set up all the time and ready to go. In the industrial world you do not have time to be converting machines to other stitches so the machines are usually stitch specific. I think having a seperate cover stitch machine would be great.

Some sergers do coverstitch but they're very expensive and fiddly and I have a serger that is less than a year old. I think/agree that a separate machine would be much easier. Bernina is currently marketing one and so is Babylock. I'm kind of leaning toward the Babylock and wanted to see if anyone had experience with either model. ephemeral

bernina still makes the stand alone coverstitch machine. or try ebay regularly, occasionally one shows up Diane _______________________________________________________________________________ "It is easier to fight for one's beliefs than to live up to them." Alfred Adler

a coverstitch is the stitch frequently seen on ready to wear knits. on the right side it looks like parallel straight stitching and on the underside it looked like an overlocked stitched at finished edge.

some sergers can be converted to coverstitch with a plate and threading configuration change. some can't be converted. and then there are a few machines that only do a coverstitch.
