Help plse ~ looking for someone to make a belljar

I hope this post is not OT. I am trying to find someone that could make a clear glass belljar / dome for me, it is to cover an old clock. It is not cylindrical. It fits over a rectangular base which has rounded corners. The front view is more-or-less hemispherical, the plan view is more elliptical. The shape is not easy for me to describe and I have no knowledge of glass making or working. I am presuming that it would have to be moulded rather than blown. The approximate dimensions are 10 inches wide x 5 deep x 9 high (255 x 127 x

230mm). I don't know about the thickness of the material. If this takes anyones interest, I have a photo of an identical clock with belljar which shows what I am trying to describe. I don't have any webspace so can't provide a link, but will gladly email the photo. My email address is nickswan (at) zoom (dot) co (dot) uk As you can see, I am in the UK but I don't see any reason why this could not come from anywhere in the world. The only references to work from that I could supply would be an accurate template (male and/or female) of the base over which the belljar sits and the minimum internal height. I would of course pay the price of it and all postage/packing/insurance costs. If this takes anyones fancy please get back to me either through the ng or mail. Thanks Nick

For a piece of this size and shape, I would suggest contacting a scientific glassblower. There should be an association of same in the UK. A molded piece would be too thick and uneven to show off the clock besides having mold marks. You need thin glass blown and shaped, then probably the bottom edge will have to be ground to avoid the punty mark.

An excellent index of manufacturers and their products.

Look for a vacuum bell jar. I use two that would work for your project but cannot, unfortunately, refer you to a retail or manufacturing source. These jars are quite large, far heavier and thicker than your standard display bell jars and,as well, differ from them in having a glass ball handle on top. Mine show a few imperfections and some optical distortion but not enough to eliminate them from consideration for your application. However, your perception of their fitness could be quite different.

The first two sources would be positioned to know where you might get the jars if they don't handle them. So make sure to ask.

Lastly--as an aside--you may want to consider changing your posting email from snipped-for-privacy@privacy.net. I couldn't read your message directly because that address was in my kill file due to use by a number of unfortunate personalities.
