Stained Glass Flowers and Small, Padded Vises

Aug 03, 2003 2 Replies

Hi, All!

I'm looking for information on anyone, anywhere, who may be creating three dimensional flowers from stained glass... I've seen ones that were fused, or blown, or spun, but none made from good ole soldered glass... Has anyone seen something like that? (I'm looking for gift ideas).

Also, is there a supplier somewhere that has small, portable vises that have padded clamps? I'm thinking maybe jewelry making stores, but I don't have the slightest idea where to look...

Thank you,

Christina.

I have done a number of pieces that were 3-D in stained glass and I don't think I would look forward to trying flowers without sagging the glass to get the curves. Anything realistic in size would have a high solder to glass ratio to get the shape and anything big enough to have a lot of glass in proportion to the solder would get very heavy - I am thinking of a rose or an orchid having to be a foot across.

there's a few folk out there doing slumped petals that are soldered together. Where are you and how many do you want?? michele
