Joan kindly (?) sent me the map showing that Hanna is working her way over to us, arriving ( much exhausted, I hope) around Weds/Thurs.

Judging by our current wild weather I think she may be getting closer! I wonder if Ike will follow the same route. He looks as if he has a bit more stamina, too.

We haven't had a proper hurricane since 1985 - our forest, which went down like dominoes, is only just recovering. At present we're suffering from bad flooding (not where I am, fortunately) but the North and West are really suffering, having had a whole month's rainfall in one night in some places.

My daughter, only about twelve miles away had a tremendous hailstorm half an hour ago. She was out with the dog at the time and said it stung like the devil.

Whilst the rest of the UK has been deluged with rain & strong winds we've been having a lovely, long sunny spell; we hardly had any rain to speak of in August and the farmers hereabouts are now well into their harvest. Yesterday (Saturday) there was a wedding at the kirk for which the sun shone from an almost clear blue sky and there was only a little breeze. However, over the last week or so it has grown noticeably cooler and the nights are definitely "drawing in".

Lucky you. Oh well, the sun shines on the righteous!
