Appenzell Embroidery

Jun 02, 2006 3 Replies

"Appenzell" was a word on the National Spelling Bee finals tonight. To paraphrase the definition, it is a type of embroidery from Switzerland stitched with blue thread.

I googled and found sites that sell completed embroidery or museums that display it. All the pictures were white work . . . no blue thread found. I'm confused. Has anyone heard of this embroidery before?

The contestant, a boy, was eliminated because he did not double the "p" and "l."

I did find a few blue examples, but it's hard to say what's correct when one relies on the internet.

there was a Swiss stamp printed years ago based on a blue emboridery from St Gallen. This is very close to Appenzell.Long bow I know.
