Baltimore meet up/field trip

I've mentioned this before, but finally working out the nitty-gritty details.

This summer there are three promising exhibits at two locations just two blocks apart in Baltimore, and would make a great field trip. At the Walters Art Gallery

there's an exhibit of Gee's Bend quilts as well as a small exhibit of ancient Ottoman textiles. Hours: Wed-Sun, 11-5, admission free.

At the Maryland Historic Society

there's an exhibit of Maryland Schoolgirl samplers. Hours: Wed-Sun, 10-5, admission $4.00.

I can do some further exploration for a good lunch stop in the area.

OR, if you *really* want to make it a full day, we could also hit the Baltimore Museum of Art for the exhibit of NUNO: Japanese Tradition/Innovation in Cloth. The BMA

is just a couple miles north of the Walters (approx. 29 city blocks, since the Walters is on Centre St. and the BMA is at 29th Street!)...too far to walk, but a

10-min or so drive, so easy to do. And the BMA has a terrific restaurant (Gertrude's,

so we could conceivably make it a long morning at the two downtown locations, go the the BMA for lunch and the other textile exhibit. BMA admission is also free this summer.I'm looking at mid-July as best time for me....7/12-15 or 7/18,19 or 7/25-29. (The Artscape festival is July 20-22 in the same area, with traffic headaches, so I've blacked out those dates). But I guess we should start with - weekday or weekend? What works best for the Northern Virginia folks - Ellice, Ericka, Donna? And Susan White? Anybody else want to join us? You're welcome to!

This is official public notice of the meetup, and we'll take it to email to hammer out the specifics. So email me if you're interested.

thanks, Sue
