Beginner Question for knitting...casting on???

Lucille , friends of mine live near [one of the few] a river that seems to overflow every second year into their house ,,, now they just prepare their house for the winter,,,,,,Art materials and books are mooved to their` son`s house , and other stuff is raised on High shlves when they go away, The built a second door that closes the door, and walled in their yard ,,,, Also the authorities Deepend the river next to their house. mirjam

I do this, only wrap the thread around my index finger. Haven't heard about wrapping around thumb AND forefinger.

You are right. You use both the tail and ball. But I assumed she meant which end do you use for actually knitting. I try to use the ball end for wrapping and the tail end for knitting on.

Isn't it interesting how we all do the same thing differently! I wrap around my thumb using the tail, and knit it off using the ball end.
