cast-on for laceweight shawl

Hi all,

I am finally starting one of my NYCO projects, a mohair laceweight shawl. The yarn arrived last week from Ram Wools (thanks for the rec, Shelagh ;) ) and I started it by casting on using the knit method. After a couple of rows I decided I didn't like the big loops that that cast-on made on the edge. Since mohair is NOT FUN to frog I'm afraid I'm going to have to stick with whatever method I use next. So, what cast on do you lace or mohair knitters use for a rectangular shawl/wrap?

Thanks!

I would either use a long tail cast on, or the half hitch.

Hi Ranee,

I have already started with the cable cast-on but I will keep your suggestions in mind for next time! I'm not familiar with the half hitch so that is one I will look up - I love learning these new things!

Thank you, Laura

(P.S. Happy belated birthday to Amira! I love her name - what is the origin?)

That is a sweet story! It is so nice when you can find a name which is both a very nice name and has special meaning! If you don't mind, I may have to add Amira to The List!

That would be great, Ranee! We're always on the lookout for name suggestions (not that we have use of them just yet, unfortunately). Could you email me offlist?

Thanks!
