black floss

Does anyone know if black floss is colorfast ? Wondering if anyone has worked with it and it bled... I want to do a redwork quilt in black threads with a toile or french border. I have the patterns ready to go but before I bother to test the black thread wondered if anyone has done this already. I am thinking Anchor might be the way to go instead of DMC this time. Sometimes the Anchor has more of a sheen. The only choice in DMC would be #310. Any other ideas for this ? Gladly accept any ideas. barbie

I have never had any trouble with any of the DMC colors bleeding. Occasionally we hear of this happening with some of the strong reds, but I have never heard of it happening with either the DMC or Anchor blacks. I can vouch for this personally, in that one of my maidens, The Naked Maja, used some 22 skeins of black, DMC 310. I washed it thoroughly in Tide as I always do, and there was no sign of any trouble. HTH.

I always use Anchor and have never had any colours bleed, including black. HTH. Best if you wash in luke-warm water rather than hot, all the same.

My sister just finished a baby afghan of the Baby Disney characters.....lots of black DMC on Baby Mickey and Baby Minnie. She washed it in cold water and a small amount of lemon joy and her colors stayed fast.

Depends upon the maker in my experience. What brand.

But never ever use lemon detergent when you've used metallic threads -- they'll tarnish.
