The LeDuc House will be kicking off a year long competition for needleart > using the embroidery patterns from the LeDuc daughters, who ran a custom > embroidery business from their home from 1880s-1920. A couple dozen of > their > designs will be scanned and available for download on the LeDuc House > website > hopefully by May 1st. Competition rules will be posted there also. >
> No big prize money (but some prizes). In June 2009 all the pieces will > be > on display at the LeDuc House for 4-6 weeks. >
> It was a LOT of fun going through their designs (the Pioneer Room has
500+ > designs) and choosing which ones to make available for the contest. Their > designs ranged from florals, floral baskets, fantasy (dragons, gryffins), > Art > Deco, rosemalling and oriental-styled. >
Actually the competition does not limit interpreting the designs only in > needlework but we are hoping that is the category we will get the most > entries > in. If someone actually rosemalled a piece of furniture using one of these > designs we would be heartbroken because we probably would not be able to > display > it due to space constraints. >
