Crochet Glade Commercial

I haven't seen anyone mention it. I remember how everyone got in a twit because Northern Tissue showed knitting needles for a quilting "bee".

Has anyone seen the Johnson & Johnson Glade commercial with the headline "Crochet Today", and the elderly woman that is making a crocheted cover for another brand of air freshener? We're to join next week to learn how to make a "bunny" cover. It's a hoot, but it certainly portrays crochet in a very bad light! That's why I'm surprised there's been no mention.

Actually I thought the crochet came off okay because there are lots of people who like that kind of crocheted object. I think of it the same way I think of needlepoint on plastic canvas and to each his own is a good motto.

What I object to is that it portrays old ladies in a very bad light. I think they still consider us wrinkled old wretches and might be very surprised at the energy and fashion sense, and certainly the artistic talent the old ladies I know have.

Well, I think part of it is because in the Northern commercial they were talking about quilting and *using* knitting needles which, of course, is impossible (in my experience, anyway! :) ). There's nothing

*technically* wrong with the crochet commercial, just rather poorly stereotypical. They could have at least had the "granny" smiling instead of the sort of grimace she gives everyone!

That's one of the things that I was referring to when I said it portrayed crochet in a bad light. I just can't believe we were horrified over a mis-used word but don't have the same energy when there's an actual, almost overt disdain for those who crochet.
