Exactly!!! Sometimes a slight difference in the shades is much too subtle for the effect I want to achieve.
Cheryl said something like "the colors fight each other." Frequently threads that I imagined would work together, when placed side by side, trigger a strong visceral reaction (think desire to puke or shudder violently)
Thanks, Ellice. I'll look that up this weekend. I haven't been online all week because I'm helping to organize the spring fair at DS' school, and it happens tomorrow. I just found myself with ten minutes while I ate my lunch so I thought I'd see how everyone was doing. I am now about to head for the school to set up for tomorrow. We hope to be done by 9 o'clock tonight, since we have to be there by 8 tomorrow morning. I'll talk to you all on Sunday.

I tend to use what is called for most of the time. If it is a gift I may get creative. Most of the stitching I have done in the last 3 years has been for the shop, first for the previous owners and now for myself. When doing pieces as samples I try to use exactly what is called for and then be sure it is in stock.
An exception is Kreinik vs. Treasure Braid. I'll go with TB every time.
The Kaleidescope Holographic threads are good for substituting for beads, too, for those that don't like to fool with beads. (Hi Karen (waving)
