dolphines

hi

i am new to the group and i wanted to say hello and let u know who i am and what i am currently up to in the stitching department

well my name is nikky and i am 22 years and i am currently suffering from a stress related illness and my dr keeps telling me i need to relax so i have started doing a canvas of dolpines i am doing a half cross stitch in wool instead of the normal dmc, it is preprinted on the fabric and it is huge i know its a bit of a cop out from counted cross stitch but i havent sewn in years so i thought this would get me back into it, i bought all the threads needed to start and i also bought a magnifier, needles and a craft box so that i ahd somewhere to hide my wools as i have a 16 yr old kitten who would shred em if im not careful

recently i bought a magnifier lamp and that has helped me immensly i am able to work long into the night which i do when i get into it as i forget what time is as i get so engrossed

well i will keep u posted as i get along and when i work out how to include images i will let u see what i have done hello again and nice to meet u all

Welcome. We're an interesting group of individuals who enjoy chatting about needlework, but also about life.

What you are doing is called canvas embroidery and it is no more nor less an art form than cross stitch. I sincerely hope you enjoy stitching your dolphins, and I look forward to seeing pictures of the finished piece.

May I just add that you aren`t allowed to include pictures on this newsgroup - you`ll have to use something like webshots and just let us have the link to it. Please do that - we love to see them. You`ve certainly picked a good hobby for relaxation! I`m sure it will help you. Take care.

Hmm - why did you include links to pictures rated as "offensive" to a needlework group?

A little attention to capitalisation and punctuation would make your posts MUCH easier to read, too. Please.

"Pat P" , published in message.

Yall one sick sad ignorant puppy Pat.

Pack the boiler suit and badge away. Your "list of misdemeanors" only qualifies you to recognize, not correct.

Heh...I wasn't going to say anything about that. But since you mention it, I may as well pipe up and agree. Posting to a newsgroup isn't like posting to a frikkin' blog. We're not much for "OMG L0Lz, uR s0 1337 @ x-s717Ch!!111!" around here.

Drives me nuts, it does... Becky A

They may have been about needlework, but my browser came up with a warning that the first lot had been deleted because they were "offensive" material, for some reason. VERY few of the other pictures were about needlework in any case!

So the kitten affects your typing, does it? You`d be surprised how many of us have puppies and kittens to contend with without it affecting our basic functions! LOL! A little consideration to people trying to read your posts is all I was requesting otherwise you may find that they just won`t bother, which might be a shame. Or not, as the case may be.

The links that do allow me to see your project show a great project. You definitely have your work cut out for yourself. I understand your statement about spending so much time stitching. It is that "just one more stitch and I'll stop" syndrome. We have all suffered from it from time to time.

I believe what Pat was asking was why when clicking on some of the links you provided us in your earlier post we are presented with the message -

------------ D'oh! This photo has been marked as 'offensive'.

If you wish to be able to see photos such as this, you need to turn off safe mode. More details are available in the faq. Thanks.

-----------------

And she made a polite request for a bit more attention to capitalization and punctuation to make your posts easier to read. If the post is visually difficult to read, many of RCTN readers will just skip the message.

We get testy occasionally with each other, but compared to most newsgroups we are generally pretty civil. We usually only get really nasty when treated to unprovoked nastiness.

Thanks Anne - I was wondering what was going on! If there ARE pics. that are offensive I don`t particularly want to see them, and in any case I keep the computer in safe mode, as I sometimes allow my youngest grandson to use it when visiting. If I took it out of safe mode I`d probably forget to put it back!

Come to think of it, that must be why I don`t get all those pornographic emails I used to get on my old email address (which is still "live" just for Ebay).

I could only open one photo of yours. The others were marked as being offensive so I didn't even try. Your choice of website to show your work is not a particularly good one.

I'm pretty liberal and don't believe in any kind of censorship except self censorship, but I still think your choice of a site that contains a fair amount of p*rn is a poor choice to show your needlework to a needlework group.

The sad part is I did understand most of it. We have a well educated older man in one of my other groups who types messages like that. He just doesn't seem to understand how poorly they represent him in public. I *loathe* it, and most of the time I just skip his messages. It's sad too, as he is a fount of good information, if you can just understand what he's typing. Heather

Well educated doesn't necessarily mean literate. I guess I am accustomed to reading poorly constructed postings because I receive messages from two nephews who are learning disabled. I am grateful they are attempting to communicate, and I do my best to understand what they are trying to say.

Right to set the record straight the website I sent you to is where I upload all my photos and the only reason i marked some as offensive because of the captions i put on them.

On the whole puntuation front the reason I said I have trouble spelling was down to my kitten is because she decides that my keyboard is hers and she sits on it and if I shoo her off, then i either get bitten or scratched so I was unable to change my punctuation because I wasn't allowed.

Oh and on the front of the pictures the pictures of my project are not offensive its not my fault if people go to look at other pictures not on the links.
