Sorta OT: Sucky eBay/S.E.X. situation

*deep sigh* I knew it'd happen someday...a transaction gone bad.

I had a little SEX money burning a hole in my pocket, so I hit eBay. Found a seller with all three things I'm looking for: the Janlynn Old World Map, TW's Rose Tree in Bloom kit, and a really pretty Daisy Sampler by Permin of Copenhagen. The seller agrees that it's no problem to stuff them into a Global Priority envelope and send it to Norway. So, I paid her on Sept 13.

I was starting to wonder where my stuff was last week. Global Priority envelopes only take a few days, and it's usually quicker to arrive from big cities like Dallas (where the seller is).

Further scrutiny of the seller's feedback showed occasional lags in shipping. So, I figured...Okay, I'll mail this person and ask if they've shipped already.

So I go to look up the payment details to make sure of what day I paid. And come to find out that the seller had been hit with a NARU (Not A Registered User). Gee, thanks for letting me find this out on my own, eBay!

I've mailed this woman twice, on Sept 27 and on Oct 2, with no reply. Strange, because she was very prompt and polite and helpful before.

*grumble* Just because she got NARU'd doesn't let her off her obligation to send my kits, damn it.

I've got a phone number in with her contact info...but if the truth be known, I'm far too shy to try and call.

I'll shut up now. I've typed enough as it is.

Whimper, whimper, whimper.... Becky

As one who has had a bad experience on eBay with a dishonest seller, I can certainly offer my sympathy. You may be in luck if you used PayPal to complete payment, since PayPal offers full reimbursement to the buyer if the auction in question displayed the PayPal Buyer Protection icon in the auction details. That icon is normally located on the top right side of the auction page, at the end of the section entitled "Seller Information" in bold black letters. Just click on the link provided by PayPal and follow the instructions to initiate a claim. Good luck!

Odd--that happened to me once and I got a notice from ebay that "this user is no longer registered, so you don't have to complete any transactions with them" sort of thing. After I had already paid for, and received, my item.

It's not necessarily a lost cause--there are lots of reasons people get NARU, and not all of them are permenent or because of dishonesty. If you move and forget to update your contact info, ebay will suspend the account until you correct it. Ditto if you get a new credit card and forget to update the payment information for your seller account.

Also, where's she located? If she's down around the Gulf of Mexico, she may be having other problems that overshadow her ebay career.

If you can't get an e-mail response, it might be worth phoning, just to say something non-accusatory like "I haven't received my stuff yet, and I was wondering if everything is okay?" Or if you're really anti-phone (which I can relate to) have a friend do it for you. Or if nothing else pans out, you can report an Item Not Received to ebay--sometimes that will wake up a seller who might have simply been inattentive.
