embroidering a Violin -hard till you GET IT

Thank you Louisa , it is part of my Fiberart work,,, part of which are kind of memorial embroideries. I try to xst something special for some people ..which will portray them in short. The enviromental work , is about another Fiberart project i do about Dirtying Earth, it is a kind of protest .. mirjam

I've seen some antique memorial samplers. They're usually based around a Scripture verse. I like the idea of making a more personal one with motifs that illustrate something about the person. I'm always interested in seeing how people use stitching to preserve memories. I saw an article a couple of years ago about a woman who was married to a naval officer, and they'd been posted all over the world during his career. For his retirement, she stitched a sampler with motifs representing all his duty stations through the years. It was very large, about three feet by four feet, if I recall correctly, and it was beautiful. Will you post pictures of your work when you're finished?

I don`t show work that hasn`t been exhibited somewhere , since some museums & galleries, are a bit fussy about showing works that have been shown elsewhere . As to memorial embroidery, Jewish Embroidery work, was made mainly for Synagogues, and it included Fantastic elaborate letters, but not many images, Due to the Biblical prohibition. In my artwork i follow my heart. On my site take a special look the Tablecloth of my Oma [ praternal GM] Sophie Cohen-kleermaker. It was a cloth from her Trouseau , which was Hidden away During the Holocuast, while she was in Threseinsadt camp. After she survived, and came home she got it back mended the holes and than started to let people sign on it and she embroidered those signatures with colored sewing threads.Thus creating a Second [scattered] layer over the first, very orderly layer of embroidery .. That was why i included her work in this exhibition. In my work there i embroidered /sew pages for each inherited doily and embroidered the name of the maker on her `[page` , my Album is made so that in exhibitions it can hang as a Pillar of Memory .. Other works in that exhibition by other artists, are also memorial works.

One of my very first designs was a Christmas freebie that was a violin with a tree bulb beside it. It was a lot of fun, getting the shape just so.
