Cool! Just so you know - beads should go directly into the kiln, as you make them.

Not a whole lot if the kiln is efficient. We have noticed only a small ($5-$10 per month) increase in our average power bill.

Is there a reason you aren't putting your beads directly into the kiln rather than annealing later?

wow!!! Thar's very reasonlble--I thought it would be much more! That (and a fear of burning down the house) has kept me from investigating glass further...like I NEED a new media to suck my brain away!! But I do have a friend that's interested in learning...and she said she'd take me with to class just to have company.....so I may be doing some info-scouring soon!! Sarajane

Yes, I think there are things you just have to get as a *whole kenetic process*, rather than illustrative snapshots or illustrations.

Glad you had a breakthrough. But why on earth would you be embarrassed to say you used a video to get there? Do you feel like 'real' lampworkers are just -born- knowing what to do?

So - do you put them in the kiln on the mandrels? I was wondering about this in class today. We have been putting them in vermiculite in class and annealing the next day.

I came home for my half day at Wm Holland and I'm doing a very quick scans and marking lots of stuff as read (sorry)

PS- I LOVE bead making!!!!! I'm hooked. We've done enamel beads and yesterday we started lampwork. We didn't want to leave today at 12:00.

PPS- I'll have more questions later:)

Yes, the beads go right into the kiln still stuck to the mandrels. You'll want a little metal shelf inside to prop the mandrels on so the beads don't touch the kiln floor.

Wish my kiln was that large. I have a hot box right now. It's only 6x6" inside. I'm working on getting my 220 line in the garage for the large kiln then it won't be a problem.

It used to cost me $3 to run a full fuse cycle in my big kiln. Bead annealers use far, far less electricity, so probably under a buck a day even for a wasteful one.

Mine's more like 50 cents per cycle or something like that. It's really efficient.
