first thoughts on software

well, I downloaded demos of 4 packages. Thus far, PatternMaker Pro (and even the standard version) have the others beat.

I can't imagine a cross-stitch package that costs as much as XS Studio costs, without having a quarter-stitch capability. Am I the only stitcher who uses quarter stitches in their designs?

PM Pro excells over the standard by having the capability to do freehand selection, a tool I also would have considered should be standard. That it's not standard in *any* of these packages is disappointing. But I will probably save up for the Pro package if the next 3 days of evaluation go as well as day one did.

but it is just one day - long-term use might reveal other issues. Stitch Simplicity didn't want to let me zoom in on a pattern. grrr..

usual disclaimers. my opinion, no association, etc.

Dont forget that you can contact Scott Horton any time you may have a query. A friend of mine asked for an extension of the evaluation time, and it was granted.

I again agree with Jim here ;o)) ... Scotty is a first rate serviceman for his software! Had my PMP for years now and he STILL answers any of my (sometimes dumb) questions in a jiffy. PMP has won me over a long time ago with all it's options like:=A9 insertion & loads of stitch diversity for instance ... pitty I don't get commissions for promoting it ... *rotflmbao*.

Hope you'll make the right choice for you KCat ... PMP is that to me!

I bought the standard version at Michael's, using one of their weekly discount coupons from the paper. Then I upgraded to the Pro version. That's cheaper than buying the pro version outright :-)

actually, i was going to look into that and see if that might be the case. There's a good bit of software out there that I find is significantly cheaper that way. good to know. I was considering buying the standard version now, then upgrading when we upgrade my PC. wonder if that same method would work across platforms, though. Right now I have 98 on that particular PC and would be upgrading to XP. So would the upgrade from standard 98 version to pro XP version be the same price? hmm... I'll check it out. thanks for pointing this out because I had thought about it then it slipped my mind.

There's just the one Windows version, which should run on any version of Windows from 98 on :-)
