Floss Question

I've gone to the bottom of my stash for my next project and retrieved "Guardian Angel" by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum. Instructions call for DMC 282Z but I'm unable to find this # in my DMC floss book or at the DMC web site.

Can someone tell me what this color is and if this # still exists or, perhaps, supply an alternate color please?

On a happy note, I've just put the last stitches into "Lily Pond Dreams". It came out lovely. Finishing - such a great feeling!!!

It's metallic gold. One rumor has it that it's been totally discontinued. Another was that it was just re-named 5282 when they came out with the line of metallic floss.

Either way, DMC gold is not pleasant to work with, so you'd probably prefer to use Kreinik braid or Rainbow Gallery.

It's a gold metallic thread. It's still being made. It comes on a large spool, and looks more like sewing thread than floss.

ISTR that later editions of the chart called for a different gold metallic as the 282Z tended to tarnish. Use whatever gold metallic you prefer. (Petite Treasure Braid, Kreinik cord, Sulky metallic thread, the new DMC metallic floss, etc.)

ALL of the DMC metallics are terrible to work with, IMNSHO :-)! When I was model stitching for Stitcher's World, I did a piece that used A LOT of the DMC metallics. The magazine paid me a hefty premium above and beyond the regular rate because of the difficulty of stitching with that stuff! I have all of the different DMC metallic colors and will absolutely never use them unless there is no other option! Trust what the others have said -- use something else -- either a Kreinik or a Rainbow Gallery metallic. They are both much nicer to work with than the DMC. CiaoMeow >^;;^<
