new and bemused!?

This is a hello to all of you that choose to read it! I am not sure how to start 'joining in' as everything I read it so disjointed (sorry) and you all seem to be having other conversations? Is this how it works?

Are there any other new bodies out there that feel so lost but are willing to try?

Good luck, I obviously need it

Welcome.

Think of it like a community cork board that every one sticks a post it note on. Now, that being said, you can set your view of the cork board to line up conversations (called threads) so they make a little more sense, or you can set it so that all new post it line up in order.

Always nice to welcome a new "Member". If you just want to talk about needlework, just ignore the posts marked "OT" (Off Topic). We do mostly talk about needlework, of course, but lots of us talk about everything under the sun, including pets, families, our work, etc., etc. We do get argumentative at times, and sometimes it can get VERY heated, but you can easily ignore those conversations.

There`s a wealth of information and help on here for needlework - and pretty much everything else! The main thing is - just have fun.

If you are using Google to read the group, try clicking the 'view as titles' option. I find that a bit easier because it puts the most recent posts in context of the thread to which it belongs and in order of the most recent postings. I'm sure there is a similar option for any other type of reader you might be using.

I participate on a local forum for gardening which just started a couple of months ago, and it has a feature that allows me to see how many people have viewed posts. I have one post up that has had about 50 people view it without answering. (It is about when would be a good time to put my strawberry plants out.) Surely someone amongst 50 gardeners must know. Anyway, things just sort of fall flat when people don't participate. And groups always need new blood because people are always leaving for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is because they're p****d off.

Welcome and good luck.

I find the easiest thing, when returning to RCTN after having been away for awhile, is to only read new posts (in other words, ones without the "Re:" heading). This way I'm not walking into the middle of a conversation which has degenerated from the original topic.

It is challenging, as I believe a number of people on RCTN have been here for eons and thus have the inside jokes and phrases that develop over a long relationship.

Hi - You have taken the best step, by starting your own topic. I agree with the previous writer, after a long absence just start with the new topics - or start another one of your own!

Also, lurking is just fine - and then you can join in when you feel the urge. At any rate, welcome and dive in! The water's not too hot right now!

You and me, both, but it is a wonderful group with lots of incredibly talented and informed people -- you have done great so far... just read what you want, and if you do not want to read anything not specifically needlework oriented, just ignore those posts that start with OT (for OffTopic).... Hope to talk to you more soon! Dee

And you don't need to be afraid to ask about those, either! We're a (mostly) really friendly bunch here.
