I'm a Designer! :)

Starting today, you can see my designs at

I will warn you, what's up there now is what I could whip up "fast and dirty", because I only had a bit more than a month to get a pattern collection together. I will be doing bigger and better stuff, now that I have more time to do it right.

Note that I have not model-stitched the cross-stitch items yet, so I am offering a prize to the first person to provide a suitable photo of a finished piece, for each of the patterns.

Congratulations on becoming a designer, Karen.

No negative reflection on you, Karen, but I'm not impressed with the website that's hosting and selling your designs. You can't even see any designs without "registering" with them! How do you know you would be interested in buying if you can't even see any of them first? And would registering put my email address and other information onto a spammer's list?

And the fact that they only take PayPal isn't a plus either. I, and many others, do not/will not used PayPal, so not only can't we purchase any of the designs, we can't even SEE them!

And I won't even rant about all of the "Your ad in this space" blurbs all over the main page. Tacky, very tacky.

I wish I could have seen your designs so I could comment on them, since those are what's really important.

Send me some info privately? The site's going to make me go through a signup (and I get enough junk mail, thanks).

I'm afraid I agree with Nyssa. I shouldn't have to "register" to view. I can see registering to purchase . . . maybe.

What was the thinking for this? I know why the host is setting up space for adverts (hoping to build capital), but this can be a real turn off to perspective customers.

Even though I sing very badly, add me to the choir. If there's something hinky about a site, I will not linger nor will I supply personal information even if the site purports to have the next best thing since sliced bread.

I had the same thought, but I'm not the one setting up the website. I'm passing along comments like this, though, so they can see where they're making their big mistakes, i.e., that it's not just me being difficult.

I will not send you anything. You can walk your cute little caboose over here and see the originals.

I actually have registered, but I can only see about 2 designs. Growing pains, I guess.

WebDiva reports: I can assure you that within the next two weeks you can view the website as a "guest". As for emails, we don't send unsolicited emails out as we operate an "email opt in" function on the website, i.e. you would only get an email from us if you ticked the box to say you wanted them.

Still getting the kinks out of the system, figuring out what works (most of it) and what doesn't (a couple little glitches). She asks me to thank all of you for your suggestions and comments. And I thank you for backing me up on a couple of things that I'd *itched about.

OK, that works too (and I may need to refugee on over. I've had to resort to the screaming rudes to get ANY time for me this weekend! NSDH decided for me that despite my lack of time to get much done during the week (plus his refusal to help, never mind that much shorter commute he has), we're going to be booked pretty much solid with HIS relatives (that he can barely be pried away from the computer to interact with!) all weekend, leaving me NO time for anything I count on weekends to have time for).

Well, when that happens, be sure and post the site again. :-) Dianne

Curiousity sent me looking....sorta like the way I look at car wrecks

You can view the designs without registering, just have to hit the right links.

Karen's "designs" are computer generated from photos mostly, sadly you can tell she did them in a rush. Not very different from the stuff you see cluttering up ebay.

Yep. Turns out that some glitch in the programming would let the designer and webmaster see everything in the designer's area, so because the link worked for WebDiva, she assumed it was working, and didn't find out till we went live that I can see my stuff, but not Lydia's, and Lydia can see her stuff, but not mine. Supposedly that's fixed, though I haven't yet checked to see if I can see other people's stuff.

I'm told that there is now a working function that will allow you to view all the wares as a guest (without registering), and that more fixes/upgrades are coming.

BTDT. Mine invited his down for Christmas (knowing that he was leaving for church at 8 AM, and not getting home till midnight), and when I came down with the flu the night before, I was still expected to cook for them and entertain them between bouts of regurgitation. (Yeah, that's something the board of health would approve of, cooking while urping.) The whole bunch of them faulted me for daring to lie down on the couch after breakfast; a proper hostess doesn't do that when she has guests.

I, of course, had the perfect retort, that I don't give a what a Proper Southern Hostess does, because I'm a G

Just my own. This is a sideline to my existing business, so I didn't want to go through all the hassles of filing DBA, etc., for something that I'm not expecting to make vast amounts of money from. Much easier to just be myself.

I have more knit/crochet designs up my sleeve. Unfortunately, I was running out of time, and those can't just be written up off the top of your head
