Went to my local Joann's yesterday and they had absolutely *no* needlework kits other than about 5 Christmas ones. Still have thread, cloth, hoops and a very few charts (mostly Winnie the Pooh), but no XS, crewel or embroidery kits! Wonder if this is just my Joann's or are they getting rid of it nationwide (The smaller Joann's - I assume the superstores would still carry kits?)
Hmmm. Methinks Seanette and I need to go to Joann's on Saturday.

No, it's not just y ours. Ours is discontinuing all kits. They will continue to have fabric, threads, and such, but no kits. Their charts have been drastically decimated...

Saw your post yesterday and hi-tailed it to both my local Jo-Ann's. When I ask about this purple tag business, they said the sale had been going on for about a week now, and yes they were clearing out all kits (XS, crewel, embroidery, etc.) and not replacing them.
The wall was pretty well picked over by the time I got a chance to look. I did find one ( Dimensions stamped cross stitch kit - Floral Scroll by Mellisa Edmonds for 40% off ) but everything else was too cute-zee for my tastes.
Sadly, my closest Joann's went out several years ago. On my last visit to one, there was nothing I'd want to stitch or to give away.
