keeping draft snake in place

So, I finally made that draft snake I asked about before. I filled it with poly beads which worked really well. Thanks for the suggestiongs! Here's my issue now: I'd like to keep the snake by the door when I go in and out since it won't help much to not be under the door while I'm gone. Any ideas for how I could fasten it to the door so it will stay in place but I can still open and close the door? The door is one of those steel exterior doors. TIA! Sara L.

Since it's a steel door, how about magnets?

My door has a "sweeper", a piece of weather stripping that hangs down from the bottom of the door. I would try attaching my draft snake to that.

Make loops at both ends and screw a hook at each end of the door , the draft snake will now always move with the door. mirjam

Good idea, but that's not a smart thing to do on a steel door. Steel doors are required in the U.S. It's part of the fire code of most cities these days.

I didn't realize that was the reason for the metal doors!

My door is magnetic, perhaps you could sew in a couple strong magnets to the ends of your snake?

There might be another system to attach it to the steel door maybe Crazy glue ???? mirjam

A couple or three cuphooks on the door and corresponding curtain rings on the snake!

OK - so it`s a steel door - use those plastic stick-on hooks.

Ooo, good idea! I think I'll try that and maybe wrap the snake in some cellophane so it'll slide across teh rug a little easier. Regular cuphooks and permanent options are out: I forgot to mention it's a rental. No way I want to know how much of my security deposit would disappear over a "destroyed" door in the landlord's mind! Thanks everyone! Sara

To avoid even sticking something to the door that might damage the finish, you can get hooks on suction cups. Some my mom bought are on

items F25818 or F28238. I'm sure you can get something similar (but cheaper) elsewhere, but I knew where these were. They really do hold well. I use them to hang my holiday wreath on the outside of my steel door to avoid putting holes in it.

Actually, for a draft snake, you could probably get away with using the regular suction cups with metal hooks sticking out that you would buy to hang holiday lights on windows. They would probably be in Wal-Mart this time of year (or soon, anyway). Maybe you can find one "rated" for hanging wreaths.

Either way, just add a couple of loops of ribbon to your snake and hang on the hooks.

Good luck!
