Kreinik storage

A while ago someone asked if there was anything available for the storage of Kreinik spools. The Stitchery shows a "Super Satchel Thread Box" (item T16-900) in the catalog I received today that looks perfect for the job. It is stackable and adaptable for other uses.

Hi, Joan. Your question made me go look at the Kreinik Blending Filament I have. Yes, the center of the spool is hollow, a bit over 1/4" in diameter, so a bit larger than regular sewing thread. I currently have mine in one of the plastic boxes the some Ferrero Rocher candies came in, the ones that had

30 pieces. Not real sturdy, but it's working for now.

Has anyone tried a Matchbox car carrier that you can find in the toy stores or dollar stores? I know they hold regular spools of thread quite easily....I would think that the Kreinik BF would work well in it too....

Just a thought. I don't have one yet, or I'd try it out for you. Anyone have any little boys with these car carriers?

But it would clash - giggle!

Yes - there are several in DS's room, but there are still Matchbox cars in them!

My kids have a lot of cars, and two boxes. The "new" box is 6 years old, while the other one is about 8. They're both in fine shape, although the sticker on the blue one is beginning to shred.

They seem to last as well as my floss boxes, and they certainly get more use.

I have to agree - the branded ones do last well. DS did manage to trash one of the cheapie ones very quickly - the handle fell off when full of cars.

I keep mine in a clear plastic storage box that I got at Michaels (or AC Moore, can't remember which) for only a few bucks. It has a hinged top and square compartments inside that allow the spools to fit inside nicely. Some of the compartments have removable sides so you can adjust the size of the compartment. By laying them on their sides, I can fit about 5 spools in one compartment. Works great for me!

Mother had a few wooden golf tees glued in one corner at the bottom of her stitching drawer. She had spools of thread on them. It wasn't fancy, but it did work.

I have a huge carpenter`s workbox sitting beside the chair, with three layers. The top one has small divisions - just the right size for keeping Kreinik spools in and other small items. I keep fabrics and stretcher bars in the very bottom, and the second layer tray has slightly larger compartments for keeping everything else in. My DH panics a bit if I go into a DIY store, as I`m always on the lookout for bigger and better workboxes - the rejected ones get passed on to him - so at least it keeps his workshop tidier!

The workbox itself, being really big, makes a handy "table" for putting things down on - a good spot for the coffee cup, for instance! And you can quickly pile all the untidy stitchy things away if you have visitors!

I wonder if the holder from Sulky would work so that you would not have to remove the end paper from the Kreinik spools. I haven't seen one though, so I'm not sure. Here is the link for that:

Interesting, although I wonder if they sell *empty* ones? It looked like all those come with the spools in them. Are the two spools the same size? I don't think I've ever seen a spool of Sulky.

I think I might have to start looking around for one of these. I currently have spools (and floss) in my "parts" cabinets. They fit in there nicely but you can't readily see the number ends. And somehow I seem to keep accumulating them! :) Thanks, Allie!

It seems to say at the top of the page that the MSRP is $24.95 for Item #885: Empty, and the following the links to online retailers, I came up with these:

I have a JoAnn's and the NN catalog. I didn't even think to look there! DUH! Well, actually, until the original poster brought it up, I hadn't even thought of looking for a separate storage container for my spools. Kinda like you don't know what you're missing until someone points it out to you! :)

Thanks, velia!!!

Here's one cheaper and shipping and handling (even to Canada) is reasonable (For the Super Satchell Thread Box) - for the Canadians here, the shipping is only $2.95. I did find it on ebay...same price but shipping to canada was about $20 for the cheapest way.
