Linen for Miniature Silk Garden?

Hi, all,

Going to try and stitch after long stint with bilateral carpal tunnel! (Lots of tips on that if anyone wants to email me.)

I want to try silk for the first time and I bought Kreinik's book on working with silk, along with their kit for Miniature Silk Garden,

.The project calls for cream 28-count linen and the place I mail ordered only had permin antique ivory, but now that it has arrived, it seems too yellow. I am going to reorder a cream linen. My question is -- is there any difference in color between cream 28-count Zweigart or 28-count Wichelt? From previous posts, I see that the "hand" is slightly different between the two, with Zweigart being softer. I am just wondering about color. Any other suggestions on which colors might look good with the sherbet colors of the project would be appreciated. I HATE not having an LNS :( Mail order is just not the same.

I have stitched this on a raw linen banding and it turned out great! See it in my 2004 finishes...mind you I made a few additions.

Suzanne,

I absolutely love this! If you wouldn't mind my asking, where did you get the linen band. I have not seen anything quite like this. Even if I don't do it on the band, I am definitely going to switch to the raw color. The yellow looks so much better on that than on the cream or ivory.

You have an excellent "eye"!

I don't know where Suzanne got it, but my LNS carries it, and I've ordered several different types of linen banding at Nordic Needle. Maybe this is the one?

Erika, That is where I got it! And it is exactly the same type...Allie, You will have so much fun stitching this. When I get home from vacation, I will rescan the 'whole' thing including bellpull hardware and beaded tassel and show you what it looks like finished...I was quite happy with it. Hopefully I will remember!!!!

Erika, how nice of you to take the time to figure that out and Suzanne, that would be super, super nice of you to let me see your project. I love it!

I truly think RCTN'ers are so helpful and friendly. Probably because they are a subset of stitchers and we know how great they are ;)

I just uploaded the top and bottom portion of the bellpull for this. Just to give you an idea of how it was finished.

It is in my online photo album at:
