Magazine Article - attn: Ellice

Wow. I got off the phone with Ellice yesterday and forgot to tell her that Orna Willis wrote an article in Needlepoint Now about the class that Ellice took with her at ANG Seminar last year.

Orna did not mention names.

LOL - I actually meant to pick up the NN - and forgot. Since the editor/owner of NN was there, I'm not surprised. Elizabeth was looking at all our boards, etc. Can't wait to read it - will be interesting to see how Orna's perception of the class, as teacher - compares with the students' experiences.

For general info - the class was about color and design, essentially starting from some image that "speaks to you" and turning that into a design board of materials, threads, colors, findings, fabric and from that interpreting into a stitched design - using texture, color, etc. It was a good experience, and insightful into the way designers from many fields work building sort of 3D sketch book/story boards. We had to then pick and choose amongst many threads, etc to then stitch a little design which would represent the original inspiration photo. It was very interesting seeing what colors/textures we each noticed or missed, the class went from person to person to sort of critique, see what we were doing in building the design boards - and then there was a great swapping of threads to people if you saw they could use something you had. It was an experience to see what we individually saw differently and collectively the same - something that might be missed by the person working with a particular photo that a bunch of others would notice. Many of the people in the class actually do teach some kind of stitching, and there were a couple of well-known designers in the class as well. It was fun - and has sort of opened my eyes up.
