Metro DC/Baltimore S.E.X. Outing

Hey all, sorry for the late notice, but, I'm a slacker.

Sue H., whose been offline for a couple of days (away) pinged me to maybe post something about our "RCTN" outing tomorrow, Friday, 12/29. So here it is.

Some of us local types are hooking up at the Stitching Post in Catonsville, MD for some S.E.X. At their sale. Following with a gabfest at lunch. And, of course, some show and tell (I'm going to let everyone laugh at the amazingly messy back of my Summer Garden Sampler).

We're attempting to meet at the Stitching Post around 10:15. Given the DC traffic - it's a possibility. The enablers and enabling are:

Ericka K, Donna and me (ellice) from VA, meeting up with Sue H. and Sue W. from MD. So, I know that Liz had noted she can't make it. Anyone else (Anne T?) interested - we're happy to see all comers.

Oh, for info the Stitching Post website is:

to "about" and there are directions.

And for the Virginians, if we're really lucky, we'll hit Stitchin' Pretty on the Way home.

That was great fun yesterday. Always nice to put faces and names together. We had a show and tell after lunch, which was terrific (both the show and tell and the lunch). Yeah for such talented stitchers!

And now onto my additions to the stash.

two pieces of weaver's cloth for punch needle a fat quarter of 32 ct Glenshee a short piece of linen banding with evergreen trees woven into the edging a very small frame for my current silk gauze project a Stitch and Zip needlepoint purse kit - which I already started - purpose to hold my new Nintendo DS Lite The Workbasket's "A Stitch in Time" with the saying "a stitch in time saves my mind" Little House Needleworks - "Ye Olde Coffee House" and By the Bay Needleart's - "White Pumpkin Patch"

And I didn't see the post until the day after! Yuck! I would have loved to have joined in the fun! Ah well, maybe next time!

Yes, it was a lovely outing! Stash-wise, I was a good girl: limited myself to one Brittercup chart, and added a set of Q-snaps to try (I usually stitch in hand, but sometimes a hoop or frame can be useful) and a fat half yard of 36-count linen on which to do "And a Forest Grew" -- eventually! Maybe by summer I'll get that one started! First some other WIPs to complete.

It was lovely to meet the "other" Susan in Maryland and the Virginia contingent and find so many common points of interest in addition to needlework!

Oh dear, another project that I never should have looked at. That would be a nice gift for a forest ranger or rural fire department, though I'm thinking that I'd rather have a John Muir quote (or someone like him) in the middle instead of the biblical quotation. I sure like all those trees! Liz from Humbug

I showed it to DD and asked rhetorically, "How would you pick out your favorite from all of those?" And she replied, "I like the larch."

I was amazed - first, that she could so quickly identify one that appealed to her so quickly; second, that she knew which one was a larch. I sure didn't!!

One nice thing about this chart is it lends itself to "picking and choosing" individual motifs rather than the whole.

I agree about the Muir quote.

Agreed! And since we're sharing, though I had no need whatsoever to acquire more stuff, I couldn't help myself and got:

Great stuff Ericka! I've stitched Med. Miniature 1 and 2 and they come out fabulous! Please keep me in mind if you all go out stashing again. I couldn't make it this time, but I'm not really all that far, and I sure would like to mee the VA, MD, DC contingent in person!

It was fun. Good company, good lunch, and good shopping! Everyone's projects looked really nice (and the shared humor of the amazingly bizarre back of my little Summer Garden).

This is so pretty - I think next time we're there I'll have to find some.

Ditto on the "coffee house" - which I'm about to start (it's small, and I have lots of floss to substitute in) and a piece of 27 ct Tea Linen for it.

I got: Fat quarter of 30 ct "morning fog" for the "scooba dooba" Gorgeous piece of "Lambs Wool" Belfast for my "Acorns" from Indigo Rose Drawn Thread Sampler Chart - "the Good Neighbor" (which turns out to be a chart for a charity), and a piece of 28 ct Crean Milan linen (the model was on 22 ct congress cloth - so "we" decided this would look even better.

DH was impressed at my "restraint" . Of course, since it took so long to pick and get the fabric - it prevented more shopping. But, I will have to get the Mermaid chart that Sue H had - upon seeing the model - it definitely called out - but for next time.

Glad we all got together - and I wouldn't be surprised if some people don't order a "name" tree like the one Ericka showed us she was working on (from M designs IIRC). Beautiful.

So - happy stitchin' all, Ellice

Ummm - I think that I left the phone in the car while shopping, and then in the restaurant had it on buzz... Sorry. Next time!

Sorry. We had been talking about this about a month back, and then took it off line. I just was slack about posting the notice. Next time we'll do something a bit sooner.

Where are you? Some of us do occassionally get together on our respective sides of the river... So to speak.

I've now finished beading half of them, and they look *so* much better with the beads--it really makes the illusion of a tree with the "ornaments" and the star on top. They've been a lot of fun, though I will be relieved to move on to something with less counting. I have little patience for counting, and these have to be right on the money.

I have found 2 interesting ways to use a Q-snap frame. One, I too stitch in hand, so I connect the fabric on 3 sides. The left side I leave unsnapped so that I can hold the fabric like I do in hand, but the rest helps me keep the tension even & keeps larger projects neat. The second way I have used one is a splint when a friend broke her ankle. I used elastic bandages to wrap it & put the frame into the wraps to stabilize it. The ER doc thought it was a great idea & said my friend would have had an open fracture if she had called the paramedics b/c they use air splints around here. I was able to wrap it w/o lifting her heel off the floor until it was stable. It was so bad they actually put her to sleep in the ER & had to set it before they could even x-ray it (it was dislocated as well as broken). She and I tied for the clutz of the year award last year - she broke it trying to not step on the cat's tail!

I'm sure the finished pieces are gorgeous - just the stitching looked so nice - especially the color combination of overdye on linen you showed us.

We'll have to have lunch or something so you can see the final results before I ship them off. I have to say, it's very nice having the overdyes do all the work! It's easy to have a neat back when you don't have to change colors ;-)

Best wishes, Ericka

Just let me know when. I think the new job is going to be postponed until the 15th - due to the work in the house. So - I have a little free time. And maybe I'll finish getting the summer garden all done. So, we'll grab Donna and do something on this side of town - now that we know how close we all are.

Yep! Ginger had borrowed my "Tara" pattern, and after driving herself batty with all the color changes in the trees, she strongly suggested that when I stitched it myself, I'd want to use an overdye instead of ten zillion individual shades of green.

I'm in MD, just outside DC and only about 30-45 minutes from Baltimore....

I don't stitch a whole lot any more, because I am mostly quilting right now...but I do love to shop look and I do try to do a little stitching every now and then! How did I miss the post a month back? Too much going on I guess!
