Baltimore Album Quilts

Just come home from our craft club, where we had a demonstration of Baltimore Album Applique quilts - absolutely breathtaking!

I took my daughter Jane, who completely fell in love with them too. Apparently an asset in making these, particularly if you`re doing a "snowflake" block is Freezer paper (plastic on one side) - does anyone in the UK know of a supplier over here, as I understand from the demonstrator, who is American, that you get it from Walmart!!! Surely SOMEONE over here stocks it.

ASDA, in the UK, is Walmart. Why dont you try there? HTH.

It's also sold in most supermarkets here so you might want to look for it there. It's generally in the same area as aluminum foil and saran wrap and just marked freezer paper.

demonstrator,

Thanks Jim, I`ll do that, much as I hate ASDA! Best give it another look, in that case.

No-one has seen it here - even the American demonstrator said she can`t find it here in the UK and gets her visiting reatives to bring it over for her - but I`ll pass on Jim`s suggestion (ASDA) and the one I just discovered who supplies it.

I asked her how many of these beautiful and huge quilts she`d done and she said 48!!!!! Never parts with any of them! They really are spectacular, particularly the baltimore ones.

Pat, I think you might find it at your local butcher! Seriously, I think the wrapping paper that butchers use is very similar to what sells over here as freezer paper.

Years ago it was hard to find in Canada as well. Not sure if that's still the case, as I haven't looked in ages. Amazing how something you take for granted in one country, is something not available in another. Dad found the same thing with paint stir sticks when he moved to the UK. It's a standard freebee when you buy paint here.

Actually it`s not all that bad - £5.50 for a 50 ft roll of Reynold Freezer paper. It would probably be cheaper if they didn`t have to get it from the States. It seems so silly that we don`t keep it as a matter of course in all our supermarkets.

Our local butcher wraps the meat in freezer paper. Do yours? I was thinking of that as another source for you to try.

Why Pat? You've gone how many years without needing it so far. There must obviously be a replacement that works well food wise.

I can send you some if you want it. I personally don't bother with it, but I have noticed it in the stupidmarket. It's available here.

Hi Pat

I replied to you on RCTQ but you obviously haven't seen it.

You can get freezer paper at most quilting shops.

I would suggest Quilters Haven in Wickham Market. They have a fantastic stock of all quilting items; very helpful staff, and don't charge postage if you go to the shop! - It is only about 20 mins away from you!

If you want a preview of the shop they have a web site:

affiliation - they just take my money! If you have any probs let me know and I'll send you some.

Hope your foot's mended now

I don`t know that we do! Having seen it at our demo. I can see the advantage of it for wrapping stuff for the freezer and just writing straight on it.

Thanks, Sally, but I hear they sell it by the yard - but I`ll find out how much they charge for it. It would probably be cheaper to buy a roll!

The foot`s much better now, thanks, my main problem now is the tummy bug I had last week that just keeps coming back! One darned thing after another. Hope John doesn`t get it in the next couple of weeks - he has his cataract done on the 13th and has to lie VERY STILL for 40 minutes! That should be interesting, particularly if he goes to sleep, as he thrashes around like crazy in his sleep. Still, I shouldn`t think that that`s likely.

No they sell it by the roll - its about £5.50. They will sell it by the yard too if people only want a bit for a course or something. My roll came from there and will last me for ever!
