metallics

I am looking for the best options for metallic. I like Accentuate. But I am not sure they have the colors I want. I found the royal blue but I need white and a deep red. What do you like to use best? Thanks Donna

What weight? I find Petite Treasure Braid quite easy to work with. Anything called a chainette is a PITA. And Tiara is a nightmare. Kreinik braids aren't too troublesome, and there are tons of colors. Rainbow Gallery has their colors cards on line so you can get an idea of what colors are available in what threads. Other companies too, I would imagine. JMO, Sara

I'll echo the recommendation for Treasure Braids - lovely to work with. I've had good luck with Kreinik as well. Skip the DMC stuff unless you're willing to work with VERY SHORT lengths; I kept to it to about 10 inches.

Even with VERY short lengths, I wouldn't **ever** again use or recommend DMC metallics -- unless they have the exact shade you want and can't find anywhere else, that is. Even then, I'd pick a Rainbow Gallery color closest to what is needed. Kreinik is also nice stuff and fairly easy to work with -- being a metallic and all -- LOL! Whoever said to stay away from chainette fibers was spot on. They are an absolute P.I.T.A. to work with unless absolutely necessary.

Ditto about liking the Rainbow Gallery PTB. Depends on the look you want. I also like Bijoux, which is an Access commodities metallic - lovely for the darker combinations. And Lacquered jewels - gorgeous metallic. Depends a lot on the size of the ground fabric being stitched upon, and how you're planning to use the metallic. Crystal Braid - another RG - has a lovely look, but not my favorite to work with - short lengths, and do something to seal the end - but great coverage. RG has numerous different metallic weights, like Coronet, Cresta d'Oro, and others. Silk Lame' braid is one of my latest favorites - though it's a bit big for work on linen. I use Kreinik as well, and am having fun with some Kr Hologram on a new piece. Given the choice between Kr braid and RG, personally I prefer the Tapestry Braid or Petite Tapestry Braid. Find it handles better. Don't really like using HiLites - and have subbed in Silk Lame' stripped down instead.

Just for giggles - here's the link to the RG list of threads:
