New DMC Thread

DMC has come out with a new line: Linen. Just wondering if anyone has used it and if they liked the results.

I've experimented with the Linen thread on a couple of projects, and find it easier to use than some of the other linen threads I've tried. It seems to be a little more supple than Rainbow Linen or Ginny Thompson or Lingarn - most of which are non-divisible Linen threads. The range of colors is very appealing to me, and I really like the fact that you can work with as many plies as your project calls for.

My best results have been when I've used at least two plies and work with short lengths of it. BE SURE to work it as a fiber that has a definite direction, if you want to reduce the tangles and fraying.

If a folkart approach appeals to anyone, another alternative that worked well for me was combining it with regular floss of the same color number, and letting the two fibers just "tweed" together (don't attempt to railroad the plies but let them fall as they will.)

Has anyone tried the new Light Effects? It looks similar to teh metallics and I was wondering if it is as difficult to work with.

Light Effects is the DMC metallic line renamed, with new numbers assigned that come closer to DMC's existing colors. Right now, the LE skeins carry both the old and new numbers on them, but that will probably go away after a while.

DMC's added several additional colors to the old metallics line, and brought back at least one that they had discontinued.

Not much fun to work with, but - by varying the number of plies you work with - it does allow you to select the appearance you want for your project. It also has an interesting effect when you combine it and other fibers in the needle.

I used some of the white glow-in-the-dark thread for Halloween projects for my grandkids teachers-- they turned out very cute, and the kids loved getting into a dark room and looking a the ghosties float around.

Kreinik also makes a glow in the dark thread - the color is called Grapefruit.
