What a weekend! Nothing seemed to go as planned. Yesterday afternoon we lost power for a few hours, for no discernable reason, and also pipes were clogged, so we were afraid to shower or flush until after a plumber visit. The plumber just left and the bill was only half of what we expected (though still a chunk of change), so we're relieved.
On Wednesday morning youngest DD (22 y.o.) leaves for college in Honolulu (transfer student). She's really excited. I am, too...DH and I will be empty nesters after 32 years. It will seem strange, for sure.
Progress continues on my craft studio. Hope to move in around Labor Day. Ceiling is painted, walls are painted, and over the weekend we bought and mostly installed the quarter-round moulding for the floor (pulling up carpet). Will start painting the woodwork later this week, when schedule allows. Yesterday I showed it to the DD who formerly lived there, and she commented on the rich blue color. We normally call it "The Room Formerly Known as Lexa's" and I told her it needs a new name. She suggested "The Bluedoir"!
On the stitching front: Bringing state fair entries for drop-off today: a Raggedy Anne doll and a Christmas ornament (Yo-Ho-Ho pirate by Sue Hillis). Fingers crossed. And I'll pick up free tix for state fair from the tourism board, so I can go back next week and see if there are any ribbons on 'em!
I bought a circular crochet hook on Ebay, and am making a shawl in Tunisian crochet. It's working up quickly and is fun, but it's been a bear "taming" the hook, which wants to twist itself around to an odd angle. At first I felt myself being very tight in my stitches, and am consciously loosening up. It helps to "hang" the needle every once in awhile, they way you do with floss on an embroidery needle.
