Off Topic this ought to be interesting - more hockey

I remember being invited to a piano recital on campus - lots of newly minted piano players that maybe needed to practice more and drink less coffee. Could have ruined Debussy for me for ever.

So, I might even have a little sympathy for you! LOL

But if you really want some excitement, strap some skates to those kids, hand them a puck and stick and watch them fly!

I have to say, at least piano is better than some other instruments. I listen to piano practice and percussion practice, but either is lots better than beginning violin. Listening to beginning violin is pretty much the 9th circle of hell as far as I'm concerned.

Dance is pretty low key, except working back stage during performances. That's kind of stressful sometimes. Fortunately, I'm usually working with the boys, and I think they're easier. They're more ornery/wiggly (the younger ones), but the girls have other challenges ;-)

Ya know, the boys' former eye doctor kept trying to recruit them for hockey. I'm not sure I want to live in times that interesting ;-) DS1 just beat himself to a bloody pulp on the elliptical machine this morning, so strapping on some weapons and sending him out onto the ice just doesn't sound like a very good idea to me!

Well, I'm off to get drowned taking the kids to the teacher meet'n'greet at school today...

I have two grandchildren who learned violin with the Suzuki method and I have to say, it was pretty well painless.

I'm just really sensitive to intonation, so when things are out of tune, it's rather painful for me. It's usually a long time before string instrument players are

Oh, I burst out laughing on this one, Ericka. I went back to college to study music late in life (30s) and one of the requirements was to learn another instrument. I had *always* wanted to play the violin. So, I took it up for two years.

What a disaster. I couldn't stand practising because of the tuning. It drove me insane. I tried and tried and finally gave up. I'm tremendously glad for the experience as I did a ton of accompaniment for young violinists, so I could help them tune, etc. But my experience was pitiful.

I'm sure they are, but I think when you get right down to it, the highs are pretty incredible whenever you see your kids putting their hearts into anything and excelling, regardless of what the particular activity is. So, for the moment I'll just enjoy that at the moment, the activities are rather comfortable for me ;-)

My mother managed to suffer through my beginner efforts on organ, drums, clarinet, and bassoon. The poodle learned to glare at me. She lucked out since I never played my cousin's trumpet in her presence (my aunt got that joy) and I bought my flute after I moved away.

I have a neighbor that made her son practice trumpet outside. I only made DS practice behind closed doors and vacuumed while he did!

If I was looking for my comfort, they wouldn't be doing anything....

Yes, but my mom still wasn't happy about being a piano mom - and boy, she hated being a stable mom. Constantly trying to find ways to suspend my riding lessons, or postpone them. Once it was for playing kickball with the neighborhood kids - while I had a large, plaster don't walk on it, cast on my "bad" leg (after achilles tendon lengthing). I think that cancelled about a good 3 months of lessons! For the piano - they only griped when I got a bit older, teachers were further away, and I practiced late. Occassionally there were the complaints from the neighbors - when the piano top was up, windows open and I was in my Russians phase. Hard to believe - parents asking you NOT to practice (I wasn't that bad....)

Our little girl turned 8 today. So probably the 2018 Games.
