Your conclusion caused me to be curious. I looked up the word picot and found it comes from the old French meaning point and is associated with loop trims.
I had never thought about this, but yes . . . from lace to embroidery. I see that even knitting has a picot trim!

LOL - we actually did the scenic route. Involving the NJT/off through some little town - then onto 130 then onto 295 then off 295 (boyce?) then crossed the Cmdre Barry Brdige instead of the DWM then on whatever the heck the road is thru Rising Sun (278?) then maybe Rt 1? - through lovely Cecil County then back on 22 - crossed over 95 - saw the still back-up - then down 40 (DH wanted to back track to 1 again, I said NO) then to 43 - Which goes across to White Marsh - stopped finally for a break at the new B&N, got my latte - then onto 695 w to 70 to 15 and home.
This trip took about 7 hours - normally 4 1/2. But, I think we'll try to time it better next year.
