old xst books and their use

With the Renaissance of knitting , there seems to be a renewed interest in knitting children clothes with Figures of animals etc, on them , i find that more and more ladies call to ask if i have a 'knitting pattern' of an animal , when i suggest they consult a xst book , they are surprised,,,, mirjam

The trouble with using a cross stitch chart as reference for knitting is that cross stitches are square and knitting stitches are longer than they are wide, so there will be quite a bit of distortion. It wouldn`t matter so much with a purely geometric shape but with a pictorial representation it would show quite a lot. A circle would appear as an (upright) oval, for instance
