On topic: a happy discovery

I was in JoAnn Fabrics today, and they've started carrying the BritStich mags: Cross Stitching, Cross Stitch Gold, and one other. They also carry Mary Hickmott's new stitches. The reason this is so exciting? The regular availability of 40% off coupons! (goodbye Barnes and Noble, Hello JoAnne's!!)

I hope that goes for all their stores.

Me too! I was in mine about a week ago and didn't see them. . .

I'll say! Though BN is much more convenient that Joann's. Will the 40% coupons apply to things like magazines? That would be the only way to balance out the extra gas....

Wow, that is a find! When I was in PA of course I scoped out the shops. Didn't find any LNS' but I visited my first A.C. Moore. Eh. Maybe it was just that store, but it so annoys me when the craft stores have miles of aisles of Christmas in July! I know we get started now, but the store was a mess and I can't shop in a mess.

It will say on the coupon what is not allowed. I've used my coupon for books, so I imagine mags would also be considered.

As someone in retail, it is now "fall" and "back to school". Mind you, some schools locally have only been out for 20 days.

I guess. Kids down here are getting ready to start school first week of August. They get out in early May so they have a few minutes to play outdoors before the ovens are turned on. It's been over 100 degrees for over a month with no end in sight. We may get 1/4 inch of rain from the outer bands of hurricane whatever.

I think the thing which irked me more than anything was how out of order the store was. Things all over, boxes, papers, garbage on the floor, the floss was a huge mess. I'm used to the anal retentive Hobby Lobby and Michael's!

A shop that sells handcraft materials and looks like you describe , makes us feel more at home . mirjam :>:>:>

Oooooooooooooooh. Wish I'd known that this morning. We drove right past JoAnn's en route to somewhere he was going to be for a good 15 minutes ... he could've dropped me there instead of me waiting in the car (yes, I had XS with me).

Shop impressions: My AC Moore is always 'spotless' and many of the clerks/floor staff seem to be knowledgeable about the products -- IOW, they're crafters. My Michael's seems dark. Hobby Lobby and the others to a lesser extent devote too much room to home decor items that don't seem to sell -- if you wait awhile, you can buy them at 80% off. As I may have said before, in almost all the stores, yarn is encroaching on stitching supplies.

Joann's has implemented a queue for the cash registers... Everyone waits in the same line and doesn't proceed until one of the clerks says "I can help the next customer." Returns are only handled at one register. Unlike in the past, when one could walk up to that register/counter, now if someone has a return, that someone has to wait in the same line as people making purchases.

Coupons can't be used on magazines or books if they're already discounted by a mere 5-10%.

Oh - I'll bet you came on stock day; I can't believe the mess it makes even when you're trying to keep it neat.

For me, locally, it's Joanne's that is always a mess. ACM and Michaels are neater.

You're probably right. It is very difficult to keep it neat during stockup. Joanne's around here are also always a mess. I don't understand it. Every Joanne's store looks the same...a big mess!

They used to advertise, but I haven't seen anything from them in a while. Where does this coupon come from? They used to mail out fliers. Do you have to use them and then the scan detects you and continues to send them via mail? I'm going to check out their website.

Nearly everyone has gone online for coupons and flyers.

You should register on line and you will receive coupons good for both on line and in store pretty regularly. You might also want to reregister in the store because then they will send you the fliers.

I guess if you don't use the one from the flier every so often, they drop you.

Aww... We don't have a Joann's here. Don't have a Hobby Lobby. Don't have a Michael's.

They were all our (me and hubby) favorite hang outs while we lived on the US mainland for 4 years.

and...how's this... I had a coupon for Borders and they wouldn't let me use it on magazines. It didn't SAY anywhere that it wasn't for magazines. It was one of those that you have to call the phone number, take a survey and get a code... for some 15% or something off...

When I took it back to the store, they said...no, nope, no!

I wrote to the Borders thingy online and got a passe type answer.

Uh,...I'm a B&N customer now. ;) They let you use coupons on whatever they have in the store.

OK, you've made my decision for me. A good friend keeps leaning on me to move to Hawaii where she (and her kids in perpetuity) can look after my failing health. If there ain't no Michaels, I ain't going!

But I thought you already had SABLE?

I love that about Barnes and Noble - you can use coupons and their discount of everything you might buy there.

But there is more than traditional stash at Michaels - paints, every kind of glue you might ever need ....
