only slightly OT: tunisian crochet

I had to go to the fabric store this afternoon to buy a beautiful piece of purple moire for a project for church (a banner). It has to be done by the end of October, so I'd better get started! It will have a fair bit of surface embroidery on it.

So, anyway, while I was there I found two pieces of wonderful cotton fabric with a good "hand" that I couldn't resist - good prices ($6/yard). This store is an old-time, family-owned fabric store with sumptuous fabrics that are generally out of my price range for clothing, so finding these two pieces was a real treat. (But I'll shop there for special fabrics like good silk or velvet for backing handwork - I can afford $25/yd fabric when I only need 1/4 yd, LOL!) I bought enough of one piece to be able to decide to do what I want with it later - i.e., stash, not a specific plan - and catching up on the newsgroup, just decided that it will make a lovely dress to relax in! I need a new one!

(Now I just have to find the time....)

Some years back after abdominal surgery when I NEEDED loose around the middle, I made a few muu-muus in nice, cool, cotton. I took a nightgown pattern where the garment was a very full body attached to a square yoke. I just measured the length I wanted to make it knee length, added a couple of patch pockets on the front and a frill around the armholes instead of sleeves and voila! A muu-muu! I still have two of them in the closet. If I had a little less superstructure, I could wear them with just underpants and sandals.

I went to buy a bra one day and when I arrived in the correct department I found the Warners bra I had bought for eons, which was comfortable enough for me, was discontinued.

There was another woman (other than the sales clerk) checking the bras out and she suddenly said to me, I'm the rep for Wonder Bra if you want I can measure you correctly and guarantee you can have a comfortable bra. She measured and showed me how to pick the right general design in a bra (for me) which was definitely not underwired and I have never looked back.

It doesn't matter now what I buy brand wise, if I stick with what she said, it will be great. So women, if you have a really comfortable bra look to see where the seams are, where any plastic 'boning' is and how the stitching goes between the breasts. If you haven't found underwire comfortable likely you never will because your shape is wrong for it. You get the idea.

Which is exactly what I do - I know the right "shape" and go for it every time.

I just hate having one on from 5:30 AM to bed - 9PM or so...

If we're out, fine, no problem, but at home, I change in to a cami with a shelf bra

Joan, who has never really liked dresses of *any* sort! My theme song is Neil Diamond's "Forever in blue jeans". :)

To me a granny dress is a long -- usually ankle length -- empire waisted dress with elastic around the neckline, under the bust and in the sleeves which were usually short. It often has a ruffle at the bottom, too. I made them, I wore them, I loved them :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

And I am one of those women who MUST wear a bra -- except for bed or bathing -- or I am always uncomfortable. I don't even own one of those cami things with the shelf bra because they just aren't comfy for me. I don't even like wearing a swim suit because they don't really have enough support for MOI. And like Sheena, I have a specific style of underwire that fits me well so I try to always buy that type. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

That describes granny dress as I knew it and liked it. Everything has a revival no ?

That sounds Regency or Empire to me - think all of those Jane Austen movies we are seeing these days.

It all started when Karen decided to get smart with the cross posters, BUT forgot to take out the other groups who not unnaturally got mad at even MORE cross posting.

As I have said, on this occasion and others, cross posting is BAD and unforgiveable, and causes plenty of trouble nearly every time.

It's also a terrifying glimpse into the abyss that is the mindset of "average" posters in other newsgroups. Bruce

Some newsgroups are totally that - cross posting in my local group brought us 'bombers' from a group in Ottawa - it was hateful. We lost a lot of valuable members who gave up trying to post.

It's very simple to check whether a post is cross posted and eliminate the other groups, it is undesirable to be an instigator of cross posting. Two things ruin groups, cross posting and ads, ads left unattended soon multiply and can over run a group. I've said all this before, just the same, it is the truth.

Hey - I messed up too on removing the cross post...
