OT: A smile

A friend of mine in Australia had four pigs - named Bacon, Ham, Pork and Sausage!!!

Just saw a "Creature Comforts" programme (don`t know if you get it elsewhere in the world). It consists of many, many, animal models, which all appear to be made of plasticine, with voices just obtained from the general public. There was one bull at an agricultural show- with all the joints and cuts marked out in blue marker!!! It sounds silly, but it`s hilarious - made by the Wallis and Grommit people.

I bet that most of America is spectacularly underwhelmed by their "State Visit", LOL!

Just found the website for "Creature Comforts".

Had a rotten week with my flu shot - must be a particularly nasty version of flu they expect this year. Had one day in bed as I couldn`t even sit up as I was so dizzy - just felt generally rotten otherwise! Never had any symptoms at all last yuear, but I must admit that I usually feel a bit "fluey" after my shot. John had no symptoms at all. lucky beggar - but then he weighs almost twice as much as me, so maybe that`s why!

Knowing my grandfather, who knows!

LOVE IT!

DS discovered Wallis and Grommit at school. For "testing breaks", his teacher had the discs for the kids to watch. He loved it!

Then again, he likes "Are You Being Served" and Benny Hill.

All these stories about feeling rotten for days has me wondering if I really got the proper serum. I had a very slight warm arm and a very dull ache for about 24 hours.

Then again, maybe it's that you all are wimps and I'm the big strong one. (D&R) :*))))))

Lucille

Or maybe it didn`t really take on you! You may still be unprotected! ;-)) (Big strong one! Didn`t I read somewhere that you`re a shrimp, like Sheena?)

You needed to duck and run for that!!!

I think so, Lucille. I had an experienced nurse this time, and my arm didn't even hurt afterward. Now they've got me worried that I paid $25 for a shot of distilled water.

Yep she's short like me, but i am rounder these days.

Funny - I was watching a holistic doctor (sp?) on Toronto tv yesterday and he said he wasn't really telling anyone not to get the flu shot, that it probably helps some in some way - but there are over 400 strains of flu, and when it comes down to making up this flu vaccine we all clamour for this time of year, those in charge more or less reach into the bowl of jelly beans and pull out a few 'strains' and put it into the flu shot for that particular year. Now those aren't his exact words, but that's more or less what he said. So is it all psychological?

Two more hours then I go for my shot (and that other thing). :-((

This reminds me of "The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe". Meet the meat? Cool. Pardon me while I nip off and shoot myself. {LOL}

It's not quite that random. It is more like hurricane prediction. There are computer models that predict which strains are more likely to be dominant each year and that is what goes into the vaccine. Some strains have a regular cycle of appearing every so many years. In some cases they look at what is hitting a lot of animals or what is happening in parts of Asia since many flu strains seem to spread from there.

There are families of flu virii so even if a specific one selected for the vaccine isn't dominant, you would have boosted protection against others in that same family. The vaccine is usually made with three different strains--of different families if possible--to provide the best protection.

That said, I still need to f> Funny - I was watching a holistic doctor (sp?) on Toronto tv yesterday and

Agreed it is a bit of a crap shoot as to which strains will go into the shot, but I can only say that I will do anything to avoid a major flu. I had the Swine 'Flu in the mid 70s - how I wished I could simply die and get it over with for three weeks. Never want that again!

I have had a flu shot now for around ten years and never had 'flu so my guess is as good as that doctors. Bet he's too young to have had Swine 'Flu or his opinion would match mine!!

That comes of apartment living - life`s just too easy. You need your garden to look after!

Pat P

Partly that but I know I will never go back to moving snow or mowing again, pigs are gonna fly before that !

Well, it's a little more technical than "reaching into the bowl", but, yeah, all they can do is make an educated guess about which they think will be the worst offenders this year. Some of it is, we see that HongKong Flu is spreading faster than Antarctica Flu, so likely to be more, um, "popular", and some is that Norwegian Flu isn't quite as nasty as Iraqi Flu, so let's protect against the killer while leaving people unprotected against the slightly queasies.

I met the meat most of my childhood. My granny raised chickens and one of my jobs was to feed them. I wasn't supposed to watch the beheading, but I was well aware who dinner was.

How well I remember that 'swine' flu ... I was lucky enough to get it too - was totally out of it for a week and a half and needed another two weeks of recuperation .... lost 15 lbs. too - and at that time I didn't really need to. Got my shot now and feel a little more protected.
