When we first bought this house new, within three weeks my one kitty Geena Bird died. Two months later, her sister died. Four months later our dog convulsed and was dead. To this day I swear it was all the toxic chemicals in the rugs, paint, sheet rock, and whatever other toxic materials they use to build with.
I use orange oil to clean. For the bathroom I use Bar Keepers Friend.

No, he's a cat from the country side where there's a big gene pool. He was born in Chezzetcook which is east of Dartmouth, where Mavia and Ruby live.
He is somewhat overweight, but he is also big, about the size of a miniature poodle, just heavier set.
Bonsai kitties. That one was forwarded to me by a coworker.
So that's explains my size....I come from a 'big gene pool'! At least it's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! LOL

My Pergo is bubbling at some of the seams. I have grandbabies and dogs and other pets, and if water sits too long anywhere it bubbles. Judy

The babies were born in the mid 80's so it probably is a bit late for the stains. I have a big ole trunk that fits right over the stain, so I haven't worried about it much. I just dream of the day when I can replace the whole ugly thing with some brand new floors!
That is EXACTLY what my Mom has Dianne, even the leg swelling. She is still in the very early stages of trying to treat the problem. They had her on anti-inflammatory medication and that was really helping, but it messed up her digestive tract and she had to go back off of it. Now Mom is on pain meds and trying to take the bare minimum to get by (fear of addiction) and they have her in physical therapy 3-4 times a week. Right now doing much of anything is just awful if her pain meds haven't kicked in. I'm thinking I will probably get Mom a really nice soft cushy rubber mat for her to stand on near the sink (lord knows Dad's not gonna do the dishes) and let her know all the great ideas you guys have for "softer" floors.

I have learned the hard way that keeping a little emergency clorox around is a VERY good thing. When you have raw sewage come up in your bathtub (while I was in the shower !!!!!!!!!! ), clorox quickly becomes more valuable than gold.

I really feel for your mother. It can be *very* painful and keep you from living a normal life. I'm lucky in that I don't have constant pain. But I can't walk far. Biking was my salvation last year, and I can't wait for spring so I can once again ride.
A rubbery pad, or one like the felt ones put under large area rugs might be just the ticket for her. I wish her the very best and hope that physical therapy will resolve the issue.

Fortunately, it's not difficult to find rug pads that are designed to go between rugs and floors. Also, you do want to take the rugs up and clean under them periodically. The grit that goes through the rug combined with traffic can grind the grit against the floor. Having a rug pad that stuff doesn't go through helps, but even with a good pad you'll get stuff under the carpet around the edges.

Well, yeah ;-) Alas, my kids seem to do that all the time. I have to remember to lift up the edges frequently and find all sorts of stuff stashed under there!
