Haven't been to a con since I was a young whippersnapper! Anyone want the story of how my sister almost got herself tossed from one?????

Cheryl

My sister had a (at best) glancing acquaintance with a guy I'd rather have not know (very odd friend of former BF, known as "How-weird). He was at a Con she was attending (I forget which one). He figured he'd try and tickle her. After all, he "knew" her. She decked him one and he went flying into the hotel fountain.

There is a local SCA group that regularly dines at a favorite establishment of ours. They get some interesting reactions. Especially if they get seated in the bar area.

The teacher in charge of our dance group would pass out costumes at the beginning of the year and announce that in a couple days, we were all meeting at some centrally-located kid's house, in costume, and riding our bikes to the ice cream place in the next town. No costume, no ice cream.

A couple excursions like that and the new kids got over their embarrassment at wearing the "funny clothes", and, yeah, we also got some interesting reactions strolling around in costume acting totally nonchalant. (You mean normal people don't wander around the state wearing folk dance costumes?) Around our hometown, people were used to it, but we did get weird looks when we went travelling.

A friend from that group joined SCA, and on her first excursion with them, they commented how quickly she adjusted to being stared at. Adjusted?! This was second nature to her by then! :)

The neighbor's son has joined a SCA like group at school. We've decided that it is just an excuse to go in the woods and hit each other with wooden swords! Cheryl Cheryl
