I am going to talk and booksigning tonight with Mercedes Lackey and her cowriter, illustrator and spouse Larry Dixon. it is tonight after work. looking forward hearing them talk about their book series, and other interests that they have. do know that they are/were into falconry. the reason I am sending this is because no one at my work reads their work and had no one to share the excitement and anticipation with.

Nice. :) The Valdemar books are the ones that I read over and over again if I haven't been able to find anything else I feel like reading. I can read them any time.

Lucky you, Mary! I've been waiting and waiting for the copy of OGK to come back to the library. It's currently on hold for another patron (for a week now!) and if they don't pick it up by Monday I'm going to go and claim it!!!!! In the meantime, I've just finished Mary Monica's new one and am about half way through Janet Evanovich's Twelve sharp.

I have both in hardback and have read them many times. Mercedes is one of about 5 authors whose books I buy in hardback - I am NOT going to wait until they come out in paperback!.

I know what you mean - I find that the same with C.J. Cherryh (I bought 'Pretender'in hard cover on the weekend), Lois Bujold and George R.R. Martin. (I also once splurged on a signed copy of Guy Gavriel Kay's 'Lord of Emperors). I try to wait for the paperbacks, but sometimes I just have to have it. (Think of it as literary stash - but you can use (reread) as many times as you want).

I have to start with Cherryh again, I loved her Faded Sun series. The Song of Ice and Fire series is just about the best thing out there. I love Kay's work as well.

We're here. I am quite eclectic in my reading and zoom all over the place. I read a lot of "hard" science fiction in my youth, like some, but not all fantasy (very author driven) and hate the "alternate history" genre.

Like Caren, I read all over the map. But I have a soft spot for good juvenile literature.
In the library recently a new (to me) kids' fantasy series caught my eye. It's the "Warriors" series, by Erin Hunter. I've bought the first book, but haven't read it yet. I asked a friend if her daughter (age 11) had seen them, and she and her daughter are reading them together and really enjoying them.
