OT Canada headed for an election too

No surprises here, the PM has just dissolved parliament and we are headed for an election on October 14. At least ours are mercifully brief. I leave to go to the UK on the 7th so I just may get a vote in the Advance poll.

Too soon, too costly and pointless. The pundits suggest another minority government, could be either side. Politicians !

I hope you are wrong. Recent polls suggest the Tories are making great strides in both Quebec and Ontario. I am not sure I like the Tories (or the Liberals), but I would like to see a majority government.

Dion is not capable and I don't trust Harper one little inch, so I prefer a minority. Then Duceppes, Dion and Layton will all be gone and if the Cons have any sense, even Harper, he is unelectable to a majority. If nobody trusts you, there is generally a reason.

Honest question--if you do not like either of the larger parties, why would you want a majority government?? This minority has lasted quite a long time, and has been able to pass some of its legislative program, although perhaps not as fast as Harper would like.

I agree it sounds like a complete contradiction. I just feel that it is a good idea in Canadian politics to have a minority government occasionally, because they tend to look after short term problems. But majority governments tend to look more towards the long term, and we need solutions to our long term problems right now. Jim.

The new warm fuzzy Conservative party leader is wearing nice blue sweater vests in all the election ads. (The sweaters may be warm and fuzzy, him I don't think so). But anyway, it made me think that needlework could play an important role in election campaigns. The Green Party leader might carry a bag crocheted from recycled plastic bags, or the New Democratic leader look less urban if he had a nice handknit curling sweater. Anyone for knitting a fluffy pink angora sweater for Sarah Palin???

Only if you promise me they won't go to Sarah Palin. From what I read about her she's not exactly a lover of animals and wouldn't give a hoot if they froze to death.
